Brittany's Beauty in the Ordinary Session | Lancaster, PA

One thing that makes Beauty in the Ordinary sessions so special is that they allow for real life to unfold organically in front of my camera, creating non-staged imagery full of movement and authenticity. A goal of mine is to capture the client’s daily rhythms and showcase the very routines that make up their precious day-to-day time together. Because these sessions are 2 hours long, they really allow for an unhurried, natural flow that leads to capturing moments rather than staged images.

In this session with Brittany, a homeschool mom of 3 adorable young girls, I had the honor of witnessing not only the simplicity and beauty of their daily life at home, but also the love shared between each member of the family (including their precious newborn kitties as you’ll see below <3). data-preserve-html-node="true"

Brittany and the girls took me on a tour through various parts of their day and shared with me a little slice of their story. I got to photograph their love for the outdoors and experiential learning as they walked me through their beautiful garden, showed me their chicken coop, and even hiked to the wooded area where they made me some sand cookies in their mud kitchen. How beautiful to witness the relationship between each sibling as they laughed, told stories, and played pretend!

In addition to witnessing this touching sibling bond, was the joy of watching Brittany lead, parent, and teach her children. Mothers truly are the heartbeat of their family, and I believe that they deserve to be shown just how valuable they are. Motherhood is messy and imperfect, so it can be easy as moms to miss, or not recognize, the impact they are making. For this very reason, I enjoyed capturing the admiration that Brittany’s girls had for her as they soaked in the words she said and followed her lead.

I hope to have many more opportunities to walk alongside moms and tell their story through beautiful, real images like the ones below.
